Theresa Magdaline Hughes (Theresa Magdaline Haala) was born on September 25th, 1933, in Bucyrus, Ohio. She graduated from High School in 1951. Educated as a nurse, she earned her degree from the Mt. Carmel Hospital Columbus, Oh in 1954.
She married her husband, Max Arthur Hughes, September 3rd, 1960, who preceded her in death. She had three beautiful children, Reed Douglas, Eric Joseph, and Renee Louise. As a nurse, she worked at Good Samaritan Hospital and for Dr. Barrett. Theresa was heavily involved in raising her grandchildren, sewing of all kinds. Theresa made dozens of wedding dresses and later very involved in quilt making. One of her creations was featured in a 2014 edition of the “Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting Magazine” that she was very proud of.
To those who knew Theresa, her love of quilting rivaled no other. To family and close friends, she spent days going from fabric store to store shopping the perfect fabric for her current project or the 10’s of quilts she has not finished. Sometimes she would purchase fabric, “That was too pretty to cut.”
Theresa and her sister Carol with their husband’s Max and Jerry, spent their retirement years traveling to various beaches at Hilton Head Island, SC, South Padre Island, TX, and various Air Force Reunions. When they were not walking the beaches shelling and shopping, you could find them with their sewing machines creating various creations depending on their current interests.
