Steven R. Cox

Steven R. Cox, 64 of Plainville went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Steve was a member of the Plainville Christian Church and a devout Christian.  He proudly served Daviess County for 38 1/2 years from 1979 -2017 with four of those years, 2007-2010, as Sheriff.  He earned a lifetime membership to the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, was a retired member of FOP 101 and a retired firefighter with 27 years of service with the Plainville Volunteer Fire Department.  He dedicated his life to public service and the people of Daviess County.

He put the love of his life, his caring and devoted wife, Laura, first and foremost in his life and loved spending his time with her and his best friend, Gene, and the rest of his family and many, many friends.  

You could catch him on Thursdays mowing and manicuring his lawn then taking a ride out to the woods to check out the landscape.

He and his son Bartt were avid Indiana University, Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Cardinals fans.  Steve would be cheering his favorite teams from his comfy chair, win or lose.

Steve will be remembered as a loving, faithful, good natured and caring man devoted to his family, friends, church and community.

Steve is survived by; his loving wife, Laura Cox; father-in-law, Gene Shafer; and a sister-in-law, Ginny Shafer (Randy).

He was preceded in death by; his parents; son, Bartt Emerson Cox; and mother-in-law, Millee Shafer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Gill Funeral Home from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M with a service following on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. also at the funeral home.
