Rita Colleen Mason Rish, 94, is celebrating the welcome to her eternal home. Known to most as Aunt Rita, she passed peacefully Dec. 23, 2023. She lived her life as a faithful woman of God, in service to her church, and her fellow man.
Born Nov. 10, 1929 in Bicknell, she was the daughter of Earl and Bernice Mason. At the age of 16, she began her quest to heaven by devoting her life, heart and soul to our Heavenly Father, whom she served until her passing.
On June 27, 1948 she married Rolland Roy Rish and together they had 3 children: Kent Mason, Kris Michael and Kaye Ellen, all of whom survive. Also surviving are a brother, Jim Mason, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, one brother and one grandson.
Rita was the last of the original founders of the Word of Life Church in Bicknell, she was also voted Woman of the Year in 1999 and Alumni of the Year in 2017. In years past she worked for Brocksmith Veterinary Clinic in Vincennes, where the family lived until 1971. They then moved to Bicknell where Mr. Rish was vice president of Security Bank. She also served as a Pink Lady at Good Samaritan Hospital.
It was around her kitchen table where Aunt Rita spent much time sharing her knowledge of the Bible, praying for others, often teaching youth how to read and always encouraging people to realize the love of the Lord. She had a great love for children, many of whom have stayed in touch with her through visits, calls and cards or letters.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 29 at the Word of Life Church in Bicknell from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm with services held Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, at 1:00 pm also at Word of Life Church. Burial will be in Asbury Chapel cemetery, where she will by laid to rest beside her husband, who passed in 1991.
Per Rita’s request, make memorial contributions to the Word of Life Church, 7144 Russell Drive, Bicknell, IN 47512. Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes are honored to be entrusted with Rita’s arrangements. Please leave online condolences at www.fredrickandson.com
