Paul George Brown, 85, a devoted family man, person of great faith, and lifelong resident of Vincennes, Indiana, peacefully passed away on July 6, 2024. Born on July 27, 1938, to the late Marie Lampe Brown and Vernon Brown, Paul's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his faith, family, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Kathleen Memering Brown, who passed in 2014. Their union, which began on November 24, 1966, in Vincennes, was blessed with four children: Mary Ellen Brown of Franklin, Indiana; Kelly Wigand (Ken) of Jasper, Indiana; Vernon Brown (Leslie) of Marshall, Illinois; and David Brown (Lori) of Vincennes, Indiana. Paul's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Gavin and Katelin Clipp; Kathryn, Natalie, and Delaney Wigand; Reid, Meredith, and Nick Brown, and Levi and Tyler Paul Brown.
Also preceding him in death are his sisters, Mary Margaret Evans, Hilda Fraker, LaVerne Kent, Patty Werner, and his brother, Charles Brown. He enjoyed the company of his family and we are comforted knowing he is reunited with his loved ones.
In 1993, Paul founded Progressive Chemical and Lighting, Inc., and served as President until his death. His sons followed him in the business and will carry on his professional legacy.
A proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul also served as a member of the Vincennes American Legion, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Moose Lodge. He was a St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church parishioner and graduate of Central Catholic High School. In recognition of his service and faith, he was honored with the prestigious Simon Brute award in 2022.
Beyond his professional and community engagements, Paul was a man of diverse interests. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and found great joy in the excitement of the Indy 500 and USAC racing. Paul's love for playing cards and country music was matched only by his delight in the company of his friends and family, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. He enjoyed grilling for his family and cheering for the Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team.
In honor of Paul's life and legacy, his family will welcome friends and loved ones to celebrate his memory. Visitation will be at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes, Vincennes Chapel, on Monday, July 15, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
