Norma Jean (Bunte) Messel

Norma Jean Messel, passed away peacefully in Vincennes IN, Indiana, on December 15, 2023, at the age of 91. Born on October 22, 1932, in Washington, IN to the late William and Pearl “Foreman” Bunte, she grew up surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit family. She was married to Bill Messel on October 22, 1951.

A graduate of Edwardsport High School, class of 1950, Norma dedicated her life to creating a loving home for her family. Norma attended the Mariah Creek Christian Church. 

Loved immensely by her children, James Douglas Messel (Carol) and Susan Messel Stephens (Greg), Norma's legacy of love continues through her grandchildren, Douglas Messel (Erin) and Betsy Wendel (Grant), her cherished great-grandchildren, Hannah Wendel, Hollyn Wendel, and Benjamin Messel, and her four step-grandchildren who warmed her heart with every visit.

Norma now joins her beloved husband, L. Bill Messel, who preceded her in death, reconnecting with him in eternal peace. She was also preceded by her parents, and her adored brothers, Joe, Jerry, and Dave Bunte, and her treasured great-granddaughter, Charlotte Messel.

Services will be private and Norma will be laid to rest in Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. Fredrick and Son-McClure-Utt Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with Norma’s arrangements.
