Maurice “Jerry” Cardinal, 77, of Bruceville, Indiana passed away after a hard fought battle, on July 6, 2024 while surrounded by the love and support of his family at his bedside.
Jerry was born August 18, 1946 to Joe and Helen Cardinal of Bruceville. He attended Oaktown School until his senior year when the schools combined and was in the first graduating class of North Knox Class of 1964.
Jerry married Cora “Cookie” Mason on November 28, 1964 and they had three beautiful children. Jerry farmed the family farm but found his passion in being an over-the-road truck driver which he enjoyed for over forty years. Jerry was a hard working man who enjoyed staying busy. He was a force of nature that was determined to provide a good life for his family and make sure they had the life they deserved. His family was the most important thing to him in the world and he cherished every moment spent with them. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him knew that he was the most loving and caring father and husband that a family could have asked for.
Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Helen and father Joe; brother, Robert; sister, Helen Mae; brother-in-law Gene, and sister-in-law, Ina; and his beloved wife Cookie who passed December 6, 2020.
He is survived by; adoring children, Jed Cardinal, John Cardinal (Debbie), Jennifer Morgan (Corey); and four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Steve Cardinal (Debbie); sister, Patty Gwaltney; and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
The family sends a heartfelt thank you to extended family and all the friends who came to visit and show their support and also a warm thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice who took excellent care of Jerry and Cookie also.
Visitation for Jerry will be at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Oaktown Chapel on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10 until 1 with a service immediately following also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oaktown Cemetery. Jerry and Cookie will be laid to rest together. Dinner will follow at the Oaktown Community Building.
