Margaret “Margie” Lashley Obituary

Margaret J. "Margie" Lashley, 98, of Washington, passed away on Friday January 2, 2026, at Sycamore Care Strategies.

Born in Washington, Indiana, on October 19, 1927, she was the daughter of George William and Rose Jane (Gordon) Lashley. Margie was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School and the Welborn Baptist School of Nursing.

Margie devoted her career to nursing, serving veterans at the Indianapolis VA Hospital with compassion and steady hands. She was the kind of nurse who remembered every face, every story, and every family. Her patients were never just patients; they were people she cared for wholeheartedly.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and part of the Get Together Homemaker Extension Club, where she built lifelong friendships and found community in service and fellowship.

Outside of work, Margie poured her love into simple joys. Her flower garden was her sanctuary

— a place where she nurtured beauty with the same tenderness she offered the world. And her baking... well, anyone who ever tasted her red velvet cake knew it wasn't just a recipe. It was a tradition, a comfort, a little piece of her heart shared generously.

Family meant everything to Margie. She cherished her role as aunt and great-aunt, celebrating every milestone, offering quiet encouragement, and showing up in the ways that mattered most.

Her presence was steady, dependable, and full of warmth — the kind of love that doesn't need to be loud to be felt deeply.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Lashley of Washington; nieces Rose (Mike) Honaker, Judy Moore, and Laura Lashley, all of Washington; and great-nieces and nephews Nick (Alyssa) Honaker, Johnathan Honaker, Brittany (Jacob) Clark, Kayla (Aaron) Preston, Whittney (Eric) Bynum, Megan (Clay) Thornberry, and Damon (Kiersten) Lashley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers William George Lashley and John R.

Lashley; her sister Doreatha Lashley and her nephew John D Lashley.
