Linda Cutter Obituary

Linda Sue Cutter left this world with the grace, dignity, and beauty that she always possessed on June 22nd 2023 with her loving family by her side.

Linda was born on September 3rd 1936 to James Kenneth Doty and Inice (Gibson) Doty, and she graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1954. She grew up on an apple orchard in Rosedale, Indiana as one of four children and during her youth enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, singing at many weddings and Church services, working with her family, and owning about every car manufactured during the 1950’s and early 1960’s.  Linda also held a woman’s speed record at Shaw’s Terre Haute Drag Strip for many years.

While managing the Imperial House Hotel in North Terre Haute, she met the new restaurant manager, James William Cutter, who was one of the most charming, charismatic, and ornery gentlemen she had ever known, and he adored her. Jim and Linda were married on August 4th 1971.  They were partners in life and in business for the next 27 years until his death in 1998. In 1984, Jim and Linda bought and began operating Cutters’ Way in Sullivan, Indiana, and in 1986 they started Cutters’ Way in Vincennes, Indiana, which is still going strong after 37 years in business.

Over the years, Linda loved traveling, collecting and antiquing, home projects, needlework and crocheting, going to car shows, reading, and crossword puzzles. Linda’s biggest joy came from being a mother and grandmother, and she was amazing at both.

Linda is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Jim Cutter, sister Mary Jo Harvey, brother James Kenneth Doty II, daughter Deborah Sue Cutter, and step-daughter Misha Tipton.

Survivors include sister Darla Clark and Paul Clark, son Kenneth Cutter and his partner Sue Harmon, daughter Elizabeth Cutter-McNeece Doll and Aaron Doll, and “adopted” daughter Stacey Hampton, many nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren include Tatum Binford, Charanna Binford, Colin Cutter, Zion Hulbert, and Vivien Lin McNeece.

The family would like to thank GentleCare of Vincennes, Deaconess Gateway 6th floor nursing staff, and The Linda E. White Hospice House for all of the wonderful care and support in Linda’s final days.

The family will be receiving visitors for Linda at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt’s Vincennes Chapel at 313 Church Street, Vincennes on Thursday, June 29th from 12:00 pm (noon) to 5:00 pm, with a funeral service officiated by Dennis Latta beginning at 5:00 pm.  A family gathering will take place after the funeral service at The Harmony Society, 111 N. 2nd Street, Vincennes.  Linda will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana at a private ceremony on June 30th.
