Leoda Lavon “Schaller” Arnold, a lifelong and cherished resident of Vincennes, IN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on October 30, 2024, at the age of 78. She was a beacon of love and joy to those who knew her, leaving a legacy of kindness and hospitality that will be remembered by many.
Born on September 5, 1946, in Vincennes to the late Leo and Della “Leehy” Schaller, Leoda's life was one of service and commitment to her community. In her youth, she was known for her spirited nature and friendly demeanor, characteristics that only strengthened as she journeyed through life.
Leoda's life was marked by her loving union to Thomas Arnold on November 22, 1964. Together, they built a family rooted in warmth and generosity. After her husband’s passing in 2021, Leoda continued to embody the strength and courage she was well-regarded for. Her family flourished with her at the matriarchal helm, including her children, Tina Haislip (Nick) of Odon, IN, Thomas Arnold Jr. (Angela) of Vincennes, IN, Tracy Arnold (Truce), and Heather Brown, all of Vincennes, along with her 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who will deeply miss their grandmother's infectious enthusiasm.
Leoda's commitment to nurturing others extended beyond her own family. She attended college and later dedicated herself to the well-being of others as a nutritionist for Purdue University and served many children as a foster parent. Her passion for food and people shone brightly during her time as the manager of Italian Village, where she joyfully fed and fostered community spirit.
An active member of her local Salvation Army Church, Leoda's faith motivated her to live a life filled with love and grace. Her involvement with the V.F.W. Auxiliary further demonstrated her dedication to fellowship and community service.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, daughter Tometta, granddaughter Layla Smith, her parents, and her brother Butch, Leoda leaves behind a thriving family that includes her siblings, Frank Schaller and Starlit Lancaster, both of Vincennes. They, along with all who knew her, will continue to celebrate Leoda’s remarkable life by cherishing the memories of times spent cooking, shopping, and reveling in the essence of family—Leoda's greatest joy.
