Kathryn Suzanne “Susie” Coffman, 82 of Vincennes, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 4, 2020 while surrounded by her loving family. Susie was born on December 17, 1937 in Vincennes to the late James C. Cardinal and Mary Lucille (Bono) Cardinal. She was a 1955 graduate of St. Rose Academy and a 1958 graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Evansville. Susie worked as a Registered Nurse for 50 years. She worked for many years at Good Samaritan Hospital on the pediatric and extended care units. She retired briefly in 1997 and then extended her nursing career at Eastgate Nursing Facility in Washington, IN. Susie found great joy in caring for others during her career and touched many lives. She was devoted to her family and greatly enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed monthly luncheons and shopping excursions with her friends from nursing school: Kay Barrow, Emma Lou Mitchell and Mitzie Oser. She also cherished her life-long friendship with Janet Neff. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved taking her children and grandchildren to the games. Susie was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Parish. She leaves behind 3 children, Marilyn Ostendorf (Matt) of Newburgh, Matt Coffman (Susan) of Evansville, Tim Coffman of Vincennes, a daughter-in-law, Brenda Coffman of Vincennes, 7 grandchildren: Jason Ostendorf (Samantha) of Nashville, TN, Michael Ostendorf (Katey) of DeMotte, IN, Elizabeth Hornby (Quentin) of Columbus, IN, William Coffman of Patoka, Christopher Coffman of Vincennes, Zach and Zoe Coffman of Evansville; great-grandchildren, HunterLindsey, Kynlee and Jade Hornby, and Sloane Ostendorf; siblings, Ruth Cardinal, Linda Obermeyer, Butch Cardinal (Sarah) all of Vincennes, brother-in-law, David Coffman of Evansville and many nieces and nephews.
Susie was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, William Rodney Coffman,a son, William “Bobe” Coffman and 4 brothers, James A., LeRoy, Ralph and Billy Cardinal.
There will be a visitation held at St. John’s Catholic Church on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. E.S.T. until 1:00 P.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 1:00 E.S.T. P.M. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
