John David Van Meter, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on February 27, 2025, at the age of 67, in Vincennes, Indiana. Born on December 25, 1957, to Barbara A. "Mattingly" Van Meter and the late David Van Meter, John grew up in a close-knit family, filled with love and laughter. His life was a testament to the values he held dear – family, humor, and the great outdoors.
John's passion for life radiated in his love for the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace in fishing and hunting, joy on the golf course, solace in his woodworking, and wisdom in his treasured books. His caring and affable nature made him a friend to many.
His legacy continues through his loving family, which includes his beloved children, Kyle Van Meter (Brandi) of Muncie, IN, and Jessica Johnson (Tony) of Lebanon, TN; his adored grandchildren, Addison and Peighton Van Meter, and Bryce and Jeremiah Johnson; his doting mother, Barbara A. "Mattingly" Van Meter; and his cherished siblings, Joan Puckett (Brian) of Oaktown, IN, and Jacki Gandy (Rick) of Edwardsport, IN. John was also preceded in death by his father, David Van Meter, and his brother, Jeffery (Pete) Van Meter.
Displaying a strong work ethic throughout his life, John proudly retired from Schott Gemtron, where he worked with glass furnaces. Prior to this, he contributed his skills to Fleetwood Mobile Homes. His colleagues knew him as a man both loving and funny, leaving a lasting, positive influence on all those he worked with.
John David Van Meter will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered as a beacon of friendliness and humor. His stories, laughter, and kind spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
