John Ervin Cress, Sr.

John Ervin Cress Sr. 73, of Bicknell, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

John was born on September 27, 1949 in Rushville, IN to the late Margaret Jewell Cress and Jesse Cress Sr.

John served his country in the United States Navy for four years and then went on to retire from the United States Army. John was a gifted problem solver and could fix anything, he was often referred to as John McGiver by family and friends.

Those left to mourn the loss of John are; wife, Joan E. Herzberger Cress, which he married in El Paso, TX on October 26, 1976; children, Terrie Cress of Vincennes, John E. Cress Jr. (Andrea) of Fort Mead, Maryland; grandchildren, George B. Cress, John James Lewis, and Eric Blade Lewis; siblings, Jesse W. Cress Jr. (Carla) of Fort Wayne, IN, Joseph E. Cress (Susan) of Bicknell, IN, Jeff Cress (Mic) of Fort Wayne, IN; and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Herzberger of Midland, Texas.

He was preceded in death by; parents, Margaret and Jesse Cress; a sister, Jean Ann Cress; and two brothers, James Luther Cress, and Jerry Lee Cress.

There will be a service held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 10:00 A.M. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 509 E. Walnut St. Washington, IN 47501, with visitation on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes, Bicknell Chapel. Burial will be in Bicknell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family welcomes online condolences to be left at www.fredrickandson.com.
