John Paul Bunte

John Paul Bunte 78 of Vincennes Indiana, passed away on Monday December 18, 2023 with his daughter and grandchildren at his side.
Born March 14, 1945 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Burton and Rozella (Puckett) Bunte. John graduated from Vigo Township High School in Edwardsport Indiana. After graduation, John was drafted into the United States Army. He was a Vietnam Combat Veteran with the 25" Infantry Division aka "Tropic Lightning". After returning from Vietnam he worked a short time with his brother at Johnson Oil and on the family farm before beginning his career with Public Service Indiana (PSI) Edwardsport Station. He received his degree in waste water treatment from Purdue and continued to work at the power plant. During his time employed with PSI/Duke he also worked at the Gibson Power Plant near Mount Carmel, Illinois and then a short stint in Indianapolis, before returning to the Edwardsport Station where he remained until his retirement in 2001. John became bored very quickly and went back to work as a consultant for the Power Plants until he retired completely.
John was a Life Time member of the Elks, Bruceville Rod and Gun Club, American Legion, and the Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was very proud of his grandsons David and Keaton and tried to teach them about the little things in life that they would need as they grew older, he loved to help them on any projects that they had. He was always there for his granddaughters Kasie and Danielle helping them fix their furnaces or a broken window or just being there for advice or shoulder to lean on. The one that brought him the most joy in his life was his great granddaughter Meka. He was her Papa John, they were best friends and they did a lot of exploring of the countryside together. He took her back and forth to school everyday, they talked about life and he tried to help her with her homework. He will be terribly missed by his daughter who he had lived with since the passing of his wife almost 20 years ago.
John married Joyce (Davidson) Bunte on December 21 1968 and who passed on December 30, 2003. He is also preceded in death by one sister Mary Carter and one brother Jimmie Bunte. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Wade (David), four grandchildren Kasie Wade, Danielle Weymouth, David Wade jr. and Keaton Paul Wade. One great granddaughter Meka Weymouth and a cousin by marriage Kerry Currier. A graveside service will be held 12 P.M. Wednesday January 3, 2024 at the Salem Cemetery in Westphalia IN.
