James Earles Obituary

James Garnett Earles, 73, of VIncennes, IN passed away surrounded by love on February 18, 2024. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, proud grandfather, and friend to all.
Born on December 7, 1950, to Gertrude Pauline "Connor" Rushton and John Earles, James grew up with a strong sense of family that would become the cornerstone of his life. He found his life partner in Susan "Boyles" Earles and joyfully married her on a beautiful Sunday, September 23, 2007, in Vincennes, IN.
James's legacy is carried on by his cherished family: his spouse Susan, daughters Allyson Earles (Ericha) of Vincennes, IN, and four beloved sons James “Jimmy Joe” Earles (Oscar Guzman) of New York, NY, Johnny and Brian Case of Vincennes, IN, and Eric Case of Indianapolis, IN. His brothers and sister held a special place in his heart: Carol Ray (Mick) of Vincennes, IN, John Earles (Claudia) of Mayfield, KY, George Earles (Brenda) of Vincennes, IN, and sister Jeanie Earles. He took immense pride in his grandchildren Brian Case II, Cody, Jara, and Derick Case, each shaping his world with their unique spirits.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Pauline “Connor” Rushton and John Earles and his two brothers, Jim Earles and Gary Doerner.
A patriot at heart, James served his country with bravery and honor through two tours in Vietnam with the US Army. He received a bronze star, national defense metal, Vietnam campaign metal, combat infantry badge, and Vietnam service metal. His work ethic was unmatched, with careers at Shelby Trucking, Scepter, Prestolite, and the Manhattan Tavern, not to mention his skilled hands as a carpenter.
James found solace in nature. He was an avid outdoorsman, engaging in activities like mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden each summer. His passion extended to collecting—from old coins to the unique star notes—always driven

by curiosity and appreciation. His home was filled with the loving presence of his dogs, each bringing joy into his everyday life. James was the quintessential people person, never shy to strike up a conversation with anyone, including strangers. His warm, outgoing personality made him a beloved member of the VFW, where he proudly held a lifetime membership, and a former member of the American Legion.
James Garnett Earles lived a full and rich life. His memory will be held in the hearts of those he touched with his unfailing kindness, friendship, and laughter. He was such a good person .
