James Cardinal Obituary

James C. Cardinal, 89, of Vincennes passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at Bridgepointe Health Campus in Vincennes. He was born on Oct. 29, 1931, in Vincennes to Clarence M. and Eloise V.
Horsting Cardinal. He married his first wife and the mother of his children, Shirley A. Hunckler, on Aug. 4, 1954. She died on Sept. 7, 2009. He married his second wife, Rosemary Rupple, on Oct. 4, 1976, and she preceded him in death on May 3, 1985. At the age of 16, Jim started driving a semi truck and drove for 69 years. He retired at the age of 85. In that time, he drove for his father, Harrison Grain, and many others. He started his own trucking company, James C. Cardinal Trucking Inc. He was also a dispatcher for Carie Bros. and his own company.
He was a member of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and The Eagles Lodge #384.  Jim enjoyed sports with his favorites being Nascar, St Louis Cardinals and I.U. Basketball.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Jamie Ashley (Dan) of Bruceville; sons, Jeffrey Cardinal (Lori), Jerry Cardinal (Rhonda) both of Vincennes, and Jay D. Cardinal of Switz City; seven grandchildren, Brandy Lett - Hunter (Jerry),
Leslie Tislow (Derek), Bradley Dukes (Juanita), Natalie Keating (C.J.), Nathan Ashley (Kylea), Nevin Ashley (Ashley) and Nikki Cardinal; 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Wagoner, and brothers-in law, Lawrence
(June) Hess Jr. and George Kaiser. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frances Cardinal;
sisters, Norma Jean Bilskie, Betty Jo Hess, and Rose Mary Kaiser; brothers-in-law, Thomas J. Bilskie and Lloyd Dale Wagoner; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce A. (Cardinal) and Edward Dukes; a grandson by marriage, Kevin R. Lett; and a great-grandson, MacKaffrey Tislow. The visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the St John's Catholic
Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at a later date in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.fredrickandson.com. Memorial Contributions may be made in Jims memory to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes Vincennes Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.
