Helen C. (Schlomer) Bennett

Helen C. Bennett, 95 of Vincennes, went to her heavenly home on February 12, 2021.

Helen was born in Vincennes on December 9, 1925 to the late Joseph Schlomer and Edna Bowers Schlomer.

Helen was the caretaker of St. John’s Catholic Church for many years and was also a cook at Sunset Court Senior Center. She was a devoted member of St. John’s Catholic Church and secretary of St Vincent De Paul Society. She served many people and fed the poor through Loaves and Fishes, United Shut-IN’s for Church, and RSVP Senior Citizens. All of these selfless acts awarded her nomination and then recipient of the Simon Brute award.

Helen is survived by children; Teresa McCandless (Steve) of Haysville, Jennifer L. Wilson of Vincennes, and daughter-in-law, Maxine Kay Bennett of Odon; Several siblings; Harold Paul Schlomer (Rosemary) of Bicknell, Cletus Schlomer (Gayle) of Valparaso, Dorothy Sievers, and Mary Ruth Barmes both of Vincennes.  5 grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles F. Bennett; a son, John A. Bennett; siblings, James B. Schlomer, William L. Schlomer, Tom Schlomer, Ralph Schlomer, and C.E. Schlomer, Rosina Madison, Cecilia Yochum, and Sister Mary Daniel Schlomer.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes, Vincennes Chapel, with a Mass of Christian Burial following on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at St John’s Catholic Church.
