Gloria Yvonne (Gadberry) Spanger

Gloria Yvonne Gadberry Spanger, 88, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020, at her home in Edwardsport.

Gloria was born January 12, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan to Leo and Lily (Higar) Gadberry.  Her family moved to Bicknell when she was 12 years old.  She graduated Bicknell High School in 1949.  She was a telephone operator at Bicknell Telephone Company.

She married Roy C. Spanger on May 23, 1953, at Salem United Church of Christ in Westphalia, becoming a farm wife and homemaker.  They were married 56 years before his death.

Gloria enjoyed researching genealogy, participating in her Home Ec club, and attending church functions at Salem UCC, where she was a member.

Gloria is survived by her children, Beverly Payne of Mt. Carmel, IL, Loy (Reba) Spanger of Bicknell; one brother, Larry (Nancy) Gadberry of Owensburg, IN; grandchildren, Lori Spanger of Des Plaines, IL, Angela (Eric) Fossmeyer of Edwardsport, Jamia (Luis) Jimenez of Chicago, IL, Kristen Payne of Mt. Carmel, IL; step-grandson Jared Payne of Ashburn, VA; great-grandchildren Noah Jones, Avery Anderson, Parker and Landon Jimenez; step-great-grandchildren Olivia and Ryan Payne, Savannah, Pacey and Andrew Fossmeyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy, and son-in-law, Jim Payne.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, 2020, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM EST, at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Homes, Bicknell Chapel, 109 E. Sixth Street, Bicknell, IN.  The funeral service will follow on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM EST at Salem United Church of Christ, 13135 N. Salem Road, Westphalia, IN, with burial following in Salem cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fredrickandson.com.  Memorials may be made to Salem Memorial Fund or charity of choice.
