Gary Palmer Obituary

Gary Palmer, a cherished father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2025, at the age of 79, in Otwell, Indiana. Born on May 17, 1946, in Daviess County, Indiana, Gary lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his loved ones and country.

Gary proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a testament to his unwavering sense of duty and allegiance to his nation. Following his honorable service in the military, he continued to embody the spirit of camaraderie and community through his involvement with the National Rifle Association, sharing his passion for responsible gun ownership and marksmanship.

Gary's devotion to his family knew no bounds. He married the love of his life, Vickie, on March 17, 1984, and together they raised their family. Gary is survived by his beloved children, Carrie Hill (Bryan) and Erica Kress, and  his caring brother, Fred Palmer. His legacy will live on through his several grandchildren, numerous nieces, including Brooke Palmer and Wendi Meier, and nephews, all of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.

Predeceased by his wife, Vickie Palmer, his daughter Jamie Reynolds, and his parents, Robin and Nora "Nash" Palmer, Gary's memory remains a guiding light for all who knew him. His joyous nature, combined with his kindness, made him a center of positivity in the lives of his family and friends.

Gary's professional life as a truck driver showcased his determination and reliability, ensuring that every task he undertook was completed with the utmost dedication. Not one to sit idle, Gary found solace and joy in his many interests. Whether he was woodworking, perfecting his aim, shooting clay pigeons, enjoying a round of golf, fishing, or engaging in his craft of gunsmithing, Gary pursued each with a fervent enthusiasm matched only by the love he had for his family.

Gary's sense of humor and kindheartedness left a lasting impression on those he interacted with. Whether through his thoughtful advice or his ability to spark laughter, he had a unique way of making every moment memorable.
