Emma Louise Harder, 90, a lifelong resident of Washington, Indiana, gently passed into her heavenly home on December 16, 2023. Born on September 18, 1933, to the late Alta”May” Raney Allen and Dale Allen, she was a beacon of love and kindness to everyone who knew her.
Emma was the treasured wife of Wayne Leonard Harder, who preceded her in death in 2008 after 56 years of devoted marriage. Together, they raised a family imbued with love and resilience— a testament to their partnership. She radiated warmth and affection, leaving behind a legacy through her children, Wanda Clark (Roger) and Jerrold Harder (Marleen); her nine cherished grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren who delighted in her stories and wisdom; and several precious great-great-grandchildren who will carry her memory forward.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Joyce Martin. Emma now rejoins her heavenly family, including her parents, her soulmate Wayne, two daughters, Debra Gladish (Stephen) and Karen Burkhart (Steve), as well as her siblings Mary Lottes, Naomi Arvin, Della Shelton, Camilla Peterson, Betty Kelly, A.F. Allen, Junior Allen, Jefferson Allen, Beatrice Schnarr, Leola Hornaday, Wanda Schnarr, Edna Allen, Birtle Allen, Robert Allen, and infant Allen.
Emma's life was a portrait of service and devotion. As a homemaker and farmer's wife, she supported her husband on their family farm with grace and tireless energy. She was a dedicated member of Bethany Christian Church, teaching Sunday school in the old building, sharing her faith with joy and enthusiasm.
Known for her remarkable gardening, skilled sewing, and delicious baking, Emma infused love into every task. She cultivated beauty in her home, friendships, and community, embodying the very essence of kindness and generosity.
There will be a graveside service held at Oakgrove Reeves Township Cemetery on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Tom Waston officiating.
