Dennis Taylor Obituary

Dennis Ray Taylor, also known as “Papa Denny”  a lifelong resident of Vincennes, IN, passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 80.  Denny was born on July 12, 1945, to the late Herman and Marybelle "Pender" Taylor, Denny was a steadfast pillar of his community, beloved by many for his unwavering optimism and friendly spirit.

Denny is survived by his devoted wife, Audrey “Hanneken” Taylor, with whom he shared fifty-three years of marriage with since February 23, 1972, in Vincennes, IN. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Denny was a loving father to his children, Donetta Taylor-Gray (Scott) of Lawrenceville, IL, and Scottie Blocker (Sharon) of Jasper, IN.  Papa Denny’s joy was multiplied by the presence of his seven grandchildren, Jeff Lawrence Jr., Tyler Lawrence, Taylor Bezy, Tanner Bezy, Jordan Blocker, Jalen Blocker, and Jozlynn Blocker, and by the laughter of his seven great-grandchildren.

Denny was also remembered by his brother, Stan Taylor (Mary), and his niece, Carolyn Susie Brand Reeves, both of Vincennes, IN. Denny was preceded in death by his parents , Marybelle and Herman Taylor; siblings, Lena Taylor, Herman Taylor Jr., Eddie Buddy Taylor, Sonny Eddie Taylor, Shirley Ann Taylor, and Norma Faye Taylor.

An alumnus of Lincoln High School, class of 1963, Denny built his life in the town he always called home. His professional journey included many years as a diligent forklift operator at Hamilton Glass, where he was known for his strong work ethic and affable nature. Denny is a man of varied interests; he is an avid sports enthusiast. Denny’s presence was a constant at Lincoln High School sectional games, a tradition he lovingly maintained for over six decades which made him the Alices #1 fan.

Denny’s passion for music and history was evident in his collections of records, musical instruments, and antiques. His fondness for automobiles often led him on adventures to yard sales, where he would indulge in his love for antique collecting.

Papa Denny’s memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness and his laughter. His life was made up of the experiences he loved and the people he cherished. He will be dearly missed but warmly remembered for his cheerful disposition and the gentle guidance he provided to all who knew him.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home at 313 Church Street, Vincennes Chapel. Service will follow at 7:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Scott Soderling. Memorial donations may be made to the Vincennes Lincoln High School Athletic Department.
