Denise Johnson, age 70, of Washington, journeyed onward from this world on April 24, 2024. Her chapter came to a gentle close in the tender environment of Meadow Brook Nursing and Rehabilitation in Grayville, IL. Born on June 8, 1953, in Teaneck, New Jersey, Denise exuded a brilliant combination of love, intelligence, and spirit throughout her admirable life. Her roots were firmly planted by her late parents, Blois and Edward Johnson, who bestowed upon her a legacy of strength and dignity.
From her early ages, Denise was a beacon of dedication and service. Answering the noble call of her country, she proudly served in the United States Army, where she demonstrated exceptional commitment and resilience. While in the Army she was a Medical Laboratory Specialist and Telecommunication Center Operator. The discipline and strength she displayed in her military tenure were foundational to her subsequent endeavors. Upon her honorable discharge, her thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others led her to the halls of medical school, adding to her already impressive repertoire of skills.
Denise's professional life was marked by a dynamic journey that showcased her versatility and intelligence. With a natural knack for numbers and an eye for detail, she embarked on a successful career in real estate as a federal contractor, establishing and spearheading the respected DJ Property Appraisals LLC. Her work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were evident to all who had the pleasure of collaborating with her. She most recently enjoyed a fulfilling tenure at the Irvington, New Jersey courthouse, where she made a lasting impact until her well-deserved retirement as a keyboarding clerk.
Beyond her career and service, Denise was a force of nature in her personal life. A stalwart gym enthusiast, she relished the discipline of physical fitness and often found solace in the empowering routine of working out. When she wasn’t maintaining her health, Denise had a penchant for the enthralling world of True Crime stories. Shows like "The First 48" captivated her sharp mind, perhaps resonating with her analytical and intelligent nature.
However, the centerpiece of Denise’s world was unquestionably her family. The love she held for her son, Corey Johnson (wife Yashica), was immeasurable. She reveled in the joy of her grandchildren, Corey A. Johnson, Shawn Gierlich, Qudar, Maxwell, and Zephaneah Durant, and cherished the precious moments with her great-grandchild, Navaeh Maxwell. Cody Johnson, her cat, spent sixteen wonderful years together and brought her much happiness. Each of them shaped her heart and her legacy, carrying forward the luminosity of her spirit.
While the stars have gained a new light with Denise’s passing, she has rejoined her beloved companion, Robert Evans, who preceded her in death. Their love, now reunited, continues to inspire and guide her family. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Green; and father and stepmother, Edward Blois Johnson.
Indeed, Denise Johnson was a truly spirited and exceptional human being. Her life was a testament to love – a love she freely gave and fostered in the hearts of all who knew her. Her memories are etched in the minds of those she touched, a testament to a journey well traveled, a chapter well written.
The world may seem a little dimmer without Denise's earthly presence, but the warmth of her love endures like the perennial glow of an eternal flame. As the days unfold, her family and friends will lovingly remember Denise Johnson for the brilliant woman she was, and rejoice in the legacy she leaves behind.
