Deborah Sue Cutter

Deborah Sue Cutter, 64, passed away in her sleep November 28, 2022 in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on June 14, 1958 to Bill Madison and Linda Sue (Doty) Cutter. James William Cutter, Jr. married her mother in 1971 and adopted her and her brother Kenneth. Jim always was their real Dad.
Debbie attended Terre Haute North High School Class of 1976. She worked at the Imperial House Hotel and then in 1984 started managing one of the family businesses, Cutters’ Way in Sullivan, Indiana, where she worked until 1994. In 1996, she went into business with her sister, Elizabeth, and started Purgatory Coffeehouse and Cigars at the corner of 2nd and Main in Vincennes. Together they operated the coffeehouse until 2007. Debbie worked at the second Cutters’ Way location in Vincennes, and she retired due to the pandemic and health issues in December 2020. 
Deborah is survived by her mother Linda Cutter, aunt Darla Clark and Paul Clark, 
brother Kenneth Cutter and his partner Sue Harmon, sister Elizabeth Cutter-McNeece Doll and Aaron Doll, adopted sister Stacey Hampton, nephew Colin Cutter, Zion Hulbert, nieces Tatum Binford, Charanna Binford, Vivien McNeece, and her beloved one-eyed cat Marigold. She had no children, but many people called her “Mama,” and she certainly had her “kids”. And if you were one of her kids, you knew it. She didn’t hide her feelings, if she liked you, you knew it, if you were on her bad side, you regretted it.   
Debbie had a zest for life and was an old hippie soul.  She was known for her big laugh, big heart, big smile, and big mouth. She enjoyed Yukon Jack, 120’s slim cigarettes, getting her nails done, traveling, Elton John, Days of our Lives, any bad reality TV, people watching, smoking weed, and watching tennis. Debbie loved to listen to people in transition that came in the bar and coffeehouse tell their stories and give them advice while watching over them to see how the next stage of their life worked out. It made her feel good that she could help people have fun, avoid trouble, guide them in a better direction, break some news to them in a kind way, or just be a listening ear. In both of these work environments, you are put in situations that can define a person’s character and make lifelong friends. Debbie did both well. So, in the words of Debbie: “Pay my tab, give me twenty dollars, and let’s just call it even.” Cheers to Deb!
 
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Vincennes Pet Port in memory of Debbie Cutter, in lieu of flowers. Per Debbie’s request, a memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for April 20, 2023 at Cutters’ Way Vincennes.
