David Allen Obituary

David Wilford Allen passed away at the age of 89 on September 14, 2025, in his hometown of Vincennes, Indiana. Born to Samuel David Allen and Avis Elizabeth “Nicholson” Allen on June 9, 1936, David's life was filled with devotion to his family, commitment to his work, and service to his community and faith.

David married his first love, Sharon Mae Johnson, on September 6, 1958, and forged a lasting legacy before her passing on May 6, 1999. Love found David again, and he married Sandra on June 5, 2001, who walked life's path with him until her final days on March 28, 2019. Professionally, David demonstrated his managerial prowess at the Grain Elevator and Baltic Mills until 1978, where he concluded his working career as a customer service truck driver for Seigel Oil in Denver, Colorado, a job from which he retired with accolades for his dedication and work ethic.

David's sense of purpose extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was a loving and intelligent man with a spirited character, often noted for his charming and gracious manner. His commitment to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was evident in his roles as a High Priest Group leader and Bishopric Counselor, as well as his service as a family history consultant and teacher. A caretaker of history and stories, he was a prior Ward Historian and Building Representative, connecting people to their legacy and faith.

An active member in his community, David also engaged with the Friends of Knox County Library, further nurturing his love for knowledge and the preservation of the written word. His passion for service was an inspiration to many, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

David's memory will be cherished by his survivors, his children: Penni Grigsby of Vincennes, IN; David Duane Allen (Bev) of Colorado; Steven Louis Allen of Wyoming; his many beloved grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and siblings: Harold Dean Allen of Texas, Bobby Lee Allen, Larry Jo Allen, Randy E. Allen, and Sandra Kay Moyer of Vincennes, IN. His legacy of love and wisdom will guide his family for generations.

While we grieve the loss of such a remarkable man, we celebrate his reunion with loved ones who preceded him in death, including his parents, previous spouses, son Ronnie Dean Allen, son-in-law Larry Grigsby, grandsons Ronald Dean Allen Jr. and Shane Thomas Allen, and siblings Clifford Allen, Jerry Allen, Mary “Allen” Pickett, Annie “Allen” Woodsmall, Debrah “Allen” Staley, and Gloria “Allen” Williams.

David Wilford Allen's life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of kindness. His unwavering love and wisdom will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. We honor his memory and the enduring impact he has left on the tapestry of our family and community.
