Darlene Delores McLemore, 80, passed away on Dec. 26, 2025, at Bridgepoint Health Campus, under the compassionate care of her hospice team. She was born on February 9, 1945 in Gibson Co., Indiana, to Alfred Stewart and Rosie Kays. She was the youngest of seven siblings and the last surviving Stewart child. On Nov. 19, 1969, she married the love of her life, James Jerrell McLemore, and they settled in Vincennes. Together, they raised three children and one grandson who survive her: Stanley David Williams and his wife Rachael of South Bend, Glenda Cooper of Vincennes, James McLemore Jr. and his wife Andrea of Grovetown, Georgia, and T.J. Lancaster and his wife Haley of Vincennes. Often, their home became a place for family members to find shelter and refuge. Darlene was a homemaker who knew how to fill a space with love. She was at her happiest when her home was brimming with people. With her eldest sibling 21 years older, she spent her life surrounded by nieces and nephews. Her caretaking spirit was evident as an aide in Vincennes Community School Corporation classrooms for students with disabilities. She loved to shop on Black Friday, cook more food than was ever necessary, play Bunco, read crime novels, listen to Elvis and spoil her great-grandchildren. Her heart was never the same after her husband’s passing in 2022. She is additionally survived by seven other grandchildren, 11 great-children and countless nieces and nephews who span the country. Preceding her in death are her husband, parents and siblings Charles William Stewart, Ida Ellen Stewart Staley, Raymond Leotis Stewart, Edward Junior Stewart, Lester Leroy Stewart and Shirley Wayne Stewart, as well as her grandson, Josh Cooper. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to BridgePoint Health Campus and AseraCare Hospice for their care and compassion in Darlene’s final years. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel with service immediately following also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Fond memories and online condolences may be shared at www.fredrickandson.com.
