Connie Jane Atkinson, 77, of Washington, passed away on December 9, 2023, in Jasper, Indiana. Born on September 28, 1946, in Washington, Indiana, she embarked on a life characterized by devotion to her family, a passion for education, and unwavering faith.
Connie's life was marked by the love she shared with her devoted husband, Harley "Joe" Atkinson, whom she married on October 8, 1966, in her hometown. Together, they nurtured a family that included their children, Benjamin David Atkinson (Allison Jeanne), Aaron Joseph Atkinson (Janel J.), and Shawna Marie Christen (Jeremy Scott). Connie cherished moments with her grandchildren, Gabriel, Malcolm, Gideon, Penelope, Hunter (Tori), Hannah (Corey), Olivia (Zack), Caleb, Elizabeth, and Ethan, and beamed with pride witnessing the joys of her great-grandchildren, Adair, Bryar, Hudson, and Adalynn. Among her treasured relatives was her sister, Cynthia Elaine Messmer, with whom she shared a profound connection.
She was preceded in death by; her mother, Billye Allen Hinton, step-father, Paul Hinton, and a great-grandson, Jonah Nance.
Connie's professional journey was highlighted by her commitment to education. After more than two decades, she retired as a high school biology teacher at North Daviess, leaving behind a legacy of inspired minds and nurtured potential. Her association involvement extended beyond the classroom, touching lives in various capacities.
Her spiritual life was deeply rooted in New Hope Christian Church where she served as the church pianist for many years. She lifted spirits with her melodious gift and as part of the gospel quartet, Joyful Heirs. Connie was a stalwart figure in her church community, exemplifying her love for others in every chord played and hymn sung.
Outside her educational and religious endeavors, Connie thrived as a homemaker. She opened her heart and home as a foster parent, contributing immeasurably to the lives of many children. A Girl Scout troop leader, her guidance steered young lives with wisdom and kindness. As an avid gardener, she found joy in the simplicity of tending to her garden, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
Described by those who loved her as loving and kind, Connie Jane Atkinson's impact will be felt for generations. She leaves a rich tapestry of memories, a legacy of love, and a benchmark of compassion and dedication that remains unmatched. Her presence will be deeply missed, her memory forever cherished.
There will be a service held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at New Hope Christian Church at 2:00 P.M. with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home are honored to be entrusted with the arrangements for Connie Atkinson.
