Clarence “Slim” Selby Jr., aged 93, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, in his hometown of Washington, Indiana—the very place where his story began on November 24, 1930. Slim, as he was affectionately known by all, lived a life rich in music, craftsmanship, and devotion to his loved ones.
Slim graduated from Washington High School in 1948, after which he skillfully channeled his keen eye for detail into a fulfilling career in upholstery. Beyond his professional pursuits, Slim's heart belonged to the rhythms of music. His hands, adept at restoring antiques to their former glory, also strummed the guitar with passion in a band, sharing melodies that are now fond memories.
He was a steadfast member of the Central Christian Church, where his faith and fellowship were as integral to him as his love for his family. Slim leaves behind a legacy of love and melody, survived by his son, Scott Lane Selby (Alice); daughter, Diana Marie Brewster; his cherished six grandchildren; and 6 precious great-grandchildren . Preceding him in death are his companion, Mary Alford; his parents, Clarence Selby Sr. and Verna Viola Jones- Selby- Dillin and stepfather Benjamin Dillin; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Brewster.
Slim's life was a tuneful journey that touched many, and he will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered by those who knew him.
