Clarence Eugene Hamilton passed away, surrounded by family, at his home on May 3, 2024. He was 67 years old, born April 26, 1957 to Kathryn Hamilton of Vincennes, Indiana. He was affectionately called “Tiny”, “Mean Gene” or “Homer” by his many friends and family.
Early in life, Gene was adopted into the loving home of his grandparents , Rachel (Parish) and Clarence Hamilton. The Hamiltons raised him in a God fearing home, alongside his many Aunts and Uncles who accepted him as their sibling.
Gene attended Harrison Elementary where he was described as the schoolyard “protector” of his friends. Gene enjoyed playing sports and spent much of his youth at Chicago Park. Gene was blessed as a child, by the Shriners Hospital, who provided him with necessary medical care.
As a teen, Gene lived a short time in Florida. He also worked for his family finishing drywall in Vincennes.
He eventually found the love of his life, Angela Burke. The two were married March 13, 1982. Gene walked into a ready made family; choosing to be a Dad for two young daughters, Karen and Kelly. He was a devoted dad to them. He was also a loving dad to his pets, whom he spoiled.
Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing euchre, and cheering on his favorite football teams, fighters, and wrestlers. Gene was a strong supporter of Police. He passionately debated politics. He was a Classic Rock music connoisseur.
Gene made fast friends, wherever he would go, especially on the job. He provided for his family with a vast career in manual labor, as a proud United Auto Workers union member; Gene worked for years at Hoover/Johnson Control. He also worked at INDOT, The Youth Village, and Lowe’s , among others.
Gene enjoyed visiting with family, especially his 5 beloved grandchildren. He was so proud of them. He enjoyed playing video games with them. He also loved hosting family and friends to cookouts at his home.
He had a smile that warmed hearts. He often would reminisce about the good old days with friends, and laughing over fond family memories.
Gene was a member of Vincennes Thursday Church, where he was baptized to follow his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Gene leaves behind his wife of over 40 years, Angie Hamilton, his daughters Karen Burke-Bible (Bryan Bible) and Kelly Burke Roth (Dan Roth); grandchildren Kaitlyn, Brandon, Cameron, Parker, and Emily. He will be deeply missed by a devoted sister Angela (Eakins)Hill, siblings Sue and Ken Caldwell, Father in Law, Chuck Perkins, and by his several nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and a brother in law.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Bob Eakins, and his extensive family who will greet him in heaven.
In his final days, Gene was humbled and honored to be visited by so many who loved him. He leaned on his Faith and smiled as he stated he had “a euchre game in heaven waiting for him”.
