Charles Cone Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Albert Cone, 92, of Bicknell passed away June 13, 2020 at Davies County Hospital in Washington, IN. Charlie was born on January 2, 1928 in Knox County Indiana. He was the eldest son of Charles Hester Cone and Evelyn Louisa (Craig) Cone. He had two younger brothers Edward Lee Cone, born January 17, 1931, and Donald Harvey Cone, born August 16, 1933.
As a child Charlie was smart and active. He played the violin and loved music. He spent much of his time in the family basement making lead soldiers or doing experiments with his chemistry set. He loved animals, especially cats.
Charlie married Anita (Antonini) Cone in March of 1949. They were happily married and dearly loved by their family. They loved taking Sunday rides, singing together and going out to dinner. One of their greatest delights was the time spent with Trisha. Her family looked after them and they were close neighbors for over 65 years. Sadly, Anita passed away in September of 1975 after 26 years of marraige. She was a devoted wife.
After serving in the Navy, Charlie worked for Crane Naval Depot and retired as an Electrical Supervisor. He was always busy with projects. He was organized, and loved collecting coins and stamps.
Charlies extended family, sister in law, Jeanne Shaw Lemal Cone and his brother Edward Lee Cone had three children. Charmaine, Edward, and Michele. They enjoyed visits during the summer and spending time with family in Indiana. They will be forever grateful for his loving and caring ways. They are all married. Their spouses are Scott, Elethia, and Peter. He also had 6 great nieces; Julia, Lauren, Kathryn, Jenna, Evelyn and Margo, and 3 great nephews; Eric, Josh, and Caden. Last but not least a great-great nephew Hudson, all from California.
His younger brother Don Cone and Mary Frances were married in October 1982. Mary Frances and her daughter Kiley were long awaited by the Cone family. Our family was complete. He and Don were very close and spent time together on home repair projects.
Charlie traveled with his companion Loretta Menke, Don, Mary Frances and Kiley. They enjoyed trips to Florida and visited family in California.
In January of 2018 Charlie and Ed suffered from a serious illness and were both hospitalized. For those who helped Charlie, his family thanks you.
We are comforted knowing he is not alone any longer. He is well again and no longer suffering from the wounds that life gave him. He is again whole and thriving as we all remember him in better days. He is in the arms of his wife, and surrounded by his family and friends who are in heaven. He is in the presence of God and all is well again.
There was a graveside service held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 officiated by Pastor Matt Hoffman. Military honors were provided by the All Weather Firing Squad. He was laid to rest beside his wife Anita Cone at the Bicknell Memorial Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Charles memory to the Knox County Humane Society.
