Barbara (Bobbie) Lea Schnarr, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away in her sleep on December 27, 2025, at the age of 86, in Vincennes, Indiana. Born on January 12, 1939, in Oaktown, Barbara was a beacon of love and strength throughout her life.
Barbara was the second daughter of Miles and Helen Risley. She grew up in a close-knit family that instilled in her the values of kindness, hard work, and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sibling, Karen Shefler, and both of her husbands.
In her youth, Barbara attended Freelandville High School, where she developed lifelong friendships. She was a member of many clubs, including Beta Club, Pep Club, Dramatics Club, Band, and was on the staff of the Dutch Echoes yearbook. After graduation, she embarked on a career that included working at Gimble Bond and for Dr. Murray, showcasing her dedication and commitment to her work. After her children were born, she dedicated her time to caring for and raising her family.
Barbara's life was marked by two marriages—first to Tuffy Robbins, and later in life to Ron Schnarr. She is survived by her loving children, Rick (Rhonda) of Pittsboro, NC, and Rob (Jaime) Robbins of Oaktown, who carry forward her legacy, and by her sister, Marilyn Spangle. Barbara was also a caring grandmother to her six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, being a source of immense pride and joy in her life. Later in life, she lived with Rob and Jaime for many years and loved his dogs, especially Max, who was her special friend.
Bobbie will always be remembered by her sons for her love, strength, and perseverance in the face of adversity. While being a single parent, and despite an injury that left her paralyzed on one side, there was no obstacle she couldn't conquer to raise her family. She always found a way to accomplish any task despite her disability. Her attitude toward life has been a guiding light that was passed down to generations.
A devoted member of Mariah Creek Christian Church, Barbara enjoyed her church family, actively attending and raising her sons within the church. She also attended Aikman Creek Baptist Church in Washington, Indiana. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and relationships.
Barbara had many hobbies that brought her happiness. She was an avid gardener, spending countless hours tending to her flower gardens, which was a testament to her nurturing spirit. She spent many happy hours reading her books which were a constant source of enjoyment. She also contributed to the community by quilting with her mother at the Mariah Creek lady’s aid. Her baking skills were renowned among family and friends; she loved making her homemade Angel Food cake with strawberry icing, cookies, and pies. Everyone looked forward to their package of Christmas cinnamon rolls that she made for each family.
As we celebrate her life, we also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Colonial Assisted Living in Vincennes, Oak Village nursing home, and to the nursing staff at Good Samaritan Hospital, whose care and compassion provided Barbara with comfort in her later years.
