Audrey C. Kixmiller, 97, left the Freelandville Community Home, and went to meet her Savior, June 20, 2021, at 4:14 p.m. Audrey was born in Freelandville, Indiana, on June 4, 1924. She later married the love of her life, Paul L. Kixmiller, and they made their home together until his passing in 2014.
After graduation from Freelandville High School, Audrey was a chief telephone operator for the Midwest Telephone Company in Freelandville. Later, she was employed at the Parachute Sewing Room of the Naval Weapons Support Center (Crane) in Burns City during World War II, and worked at a factory in Washington, Indiana, making Army canteens. She was the assistant supervisor at the mezzanine of Hills Department Store in Vincennes. However, her most cherished role was that of homemaker.
Audrey was devoted to her church and her family. Perhaps best known as the Sunday School Superintendent, as well as a Sunday School teacher, she also loved poetry and travel -- especially to Florida. An avid baker and pie maker, her family still fondly recalls her coconut and chocolate pies, and, of course, her chocolate chip cookies.
Those who loved Audrey and mourn her passing include her children: Daniel (Linda) Kixmiller of Freelandville, Cheryl Diane Carrithers of Odon, Jeffrey (Debra) Kixmiller of West Terre Haute, and a foster daughter, Cheryl (Randall) Norton of Terre Haute. Additionally, Audrey leaves behind ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Kixmiller.
