Anita L. (Kirchoff) Akers, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 22, 2024. Born in Washington, IN, on May 3, 1950, to the late Floyd Weber and Violet Ross Weber, Anita lived a life characterized by devotion to her family, a tireless work ethic, and an ever-present kindness that touched everyone she met. Anita's vibrant journey began as an energetic child growing up with her loving siblings. She attended the local high school, where she formed lifelong friendships and established the beginning of a life that would be deeply rooted in community and service. Professionally, Anita dedicated years of service to The Brass Lantern as a caring waitress and later shifted her nurturing capabilities to manage housekeeping at the local hospital as well as being a bright light as a cafeteria worker at Washington Community Schools. Her commitment to her community shone brightly through her active involvement as a cherished member of the Bridgeport Free Methodist Church. Anita's personal life was filled with the joy of a large and bustling family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Akers; her children, Corrine Cresgy (Josh Thompson), Chelsea Price (Kyle), and Austin Ghirardelli (Lea); her stepchildren, Heather Doty (Daniel), Justin Akers (Jennifer), and Brad Akers (Erin); her cherished grandchildren, Jacob Cresgy (Hannah), Elizabeth Cresgy, Laila Thompson, Presley Thompson, Layton and Samuel Croslow, Lilyan Doty, Jayley and Jase Akers, Elias Cowling, and Lydia, Owen, Jack, Molly, and Evie Akers; her beloved great-grandchildren, Miles, Mack, Lynlee, and Luca; and her sisters, Anna Hudson (Bill), Kim Gaines (Sam), Pam Fleck, and Brenda Robertson. She is preceded in death by her daughter Melissa "Missy" Ghirardelli, husband Nelson Kirchoff, her parents, and her brothers, Larry and Bart Weber, along with brothers-in-law Joe Fleck and Dean Robertson. Anita's passions in life were as simple as they were profound. She relished in the happiness of cooking and cleaning, the tranquility of her garden planting tomatoes and yellow flowers, and the love and laughter of her family. Every person who had the pleasure of crossing paths with Anita would agree that she embodied the essence of being loving, friendly, and selflessly committed to helping others. Anita's life, legacy and memories will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. The warmth of her smile, the generosity of her spirit, and the love she freely gave will remain as a testament to a life well-lived. Anita will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she nurtured during her time on earth. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Fredrick and Son Gill Funeral Home with a service immediately after.
