Wenn Engel reisen, lacht der Himmel.

And so will this kind man, now that he has found relief from his pain..

Daniel couldn't have chosen better words to describe Pappaw. What a wonderful, curious and kind man, grandfather and great- grandfather.

We'll miss you Pappaw! We'll always have you in our hearts.

Er ist uns nur aus den Augen genommen.
In unseren Herzen wird er immer bei uns sein.

Pappaw was one of the sweetest old men this world ever had. He knew knew no enemies, he welcomed all. From the time I could handle a joystick and a keyboard, I can remember times sent with him in his radio rooms, playing on his computers or that ancient Colecovison console he kept hooked up for me and my brother. I remember when my brother and I first got light up shoes as kids and Pappaw wanted to cut them open when we outgrew them to see how they worked. I remember later in life, after I graduated college, living with Pappaw and Mammaw as I got my life in order and taking long walks with Pappaw. I remember talking about life, faith, things we had done, and things we desired to do. I remember on one particular walk that I pointed out the flag on the pole in Sandborn looked a little ragged and worn and what happened next. Pappaw walked into the Utilities Office and in an uncharacteristic show of righteous indignation, proceeded to tell the official that that flag needed replaced and it needed replaced NOW. And it was a day later, on our next long walk, that we noticed a new Stars and Stripes flew from the town flagpole. These and so many memories of my "geeky" Pappaw will be something I hold onto for the rest of life. I love you Pappaw. You are missed.
