Rose Thompson Obituary

Rose Mary (Welton) Thompson, 83, Vincennes, went to meet the Lord on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Gentle Care Nursing Home. Rose was born March 8, 1935, in Vincennes, the daughter of Sherman and Pansy (Hatcher) Welton. She retired from Vincennes University Generations Division in 2000, and continued to work part-time in the same position through 2006. She also volunteered after her retirement at Generations, Good Samaritan Red Cross and RSVP. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary. Rose was a 1954 graduate of St. Rose Academy and a 1986 graduate of Vincennes University. Rose was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving her country from 1957 to 1958. In her free time, she liked to play bingo, be with family and watch all sports on TV, especially the NFL, tennis and NASCAR, to name a few, and was an avid bowler.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Christina Collier of Plainfield, IN; son, Paul Douglas Thompson and his fiancé, Robbie Rinehart of Vincennes; step-daughter, Lynn Fox of Worthington, IN; grandsons, Joel Anson of Plainfield and Aaron Collier, of Vincennes; sister Sheila Snyder and her husband, Gary of Vincennes; daughter-in-law, Susan Thompson of Vincennes; sister-in-laws, Jeanne Welton of Vincennes and Kathy Welton of Lewisville, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Keith Michael Thompson; granddaughter, Jennifer Nicole Collier; and brothers, Delbert, Gene, Jerry, Kenny and Mike Welton; sister, Joyce Welton; and sister-in-laws, Carolyn Welton and Shirley Welton.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Dave Fleck officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Vincennes Fire Department, Vincennes Township Fire Department, Vincennes University Foundation restricted to the Fire Science and Safety Division in memory of her son, Keith Thompson or Good Samaritan Hospice.
