Rene Dognaux Obituary

Rene J. (Bud) Dognaux Jr., 92 of Vincennes, passed away at 7:01 A.M. July 18, 2019 at the BridgePointe Health Campus. He was born February 8, 1927 in Vincennes to Nellie Bastin Dognaux and Rene J. Dognaux Sr. 

Bud retired from Vincennes University as manager of the Old Post Bookstore. He was previously President of the Blackford Window Glass Co, Personel Manager for Essex Wire Corp in Vincennes and general manager of the Vincennes Water Utility. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1944 and the University of Notre Dame in 1947. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of RSVP and the Oaktown & Vincennes Gun Clubs. He and Dorothy received the honor of the Brute Society award from the St. Francis Xavier Parish. He loved gardening and was proud of his beautiful garden. He was an excellent Rifle Shooter holding numerous State Titiles in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky as well as winning a National Championship in the expert class in 1952. 

He married Dorothy J. Opell Dognaux on September 3, 1948 and they had six children, Kay Zeigler and her husband Jim of Vincennes, Dick Dognaux (deceased January 10, 2019) and his wife Chandra of Lawrenceville, Jeff Dognaux and his wife Kim of Indianapolis, Julie Stocker and her husband Keith of Lawrenceville, John Dognaux and his wife Angie of Jeffersonville and Susan Dognaux and her husband Derrick Beasley of Louisville. Fourteen Grandchildren; Jerry Zeigler and wife Kara, Jill Williams and husband Kent, J.D., Dillon, Daniel, James, and Jordon Dognaux; Ryan Dognaux and his wife Sydnye and Seth Dognaux; Shelby Stocker; Zoe and Vivian Dognaux; Lola and Tess Beasley. Three Great-Grandchildren; Kade Williams, Finnigan and Saoirse Dognaux. Also surviving is a brother Francois (Chuck) Dognaux and his wife Jan of Vincennes. A sister-inlaw Norma Phillips of Indianapolis and a brother-in-law Don Opell and his wife Marilyn of Vincennes. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, his son Richard and his sisters Mary Ellen Laakman and Deloris Devine.

A Mass of Christian Burial from the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Monday, July 22 at 11:30 A.M. with Father Tony Ernst officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Educational Foundation, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Generations or the Vincennes Gun Club / Oaktown Gun Club.
