Darwin Emmel

Darwin Emmel, 86, Vincennes, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Darwin was born March 6, 1931, in Freelandville, the son of Herschell and Hulda (Tiek) Emmel. He married Patricia Heithecker on September 2, 1950. He was the owner at Emmel's Remodeling Service in Freelandville. Darwin was a member of Bethel Church and the American Legion in Edwardsport and the Bereavement Hospice Group. He held numerous positions in the community and Bethel Church, teaching adult Sunday School for over 40 years. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Darwin is survived by daughters, Cathy (Merrill) Lankford, Newark, Del., Lisa (Norris) Keirn, Terre Haute, and Diane (Joe) Leckemby, Alpharetta, GA; son, Tim (Lana) Emmel, Vincennes; sixteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, on August 28, 2010; his parents; sister, Mary Francis Smith; and grandson, Connor.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bethel Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at the church with Pastor Mike DeCoursey and Rev. Norris Keirn officiating. He will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery in Freelandville. In lieu, of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
