Betty Jo Hess

Mrs. Betty Jo Hess, 89 of Vincennes passed away at Gentle Care at 4:45 A.M. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Betty was born in Vincennes, October 10, 1929 to the late Clarence Cardinal and Eloise (Horsting) Cardinal.  She was a lifelong resident of Knox County.   She was a 1948 graduate of Decker High School.  Betty was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the St Vincent Alter Society.   Most of Betty’s life was spent as a stay-at- home mom, raising her large family.  Mom enjoyed canning, raising a garden, her monthly Bunco parties and joining friends at square dancing parties. In later years Betty enjoyed working at Producers Live Stock .  She loved her country music, Pacer and Cardinal sports, and watching her many grandchildren’s sporting events.  Betty leaves behind; her loving husband, Lawrence “June” Hess of Vincennes; children, Ronald Hess of Paoli, Michael Hess of Flat Rock, IL. Debra Abel (Roger) of Vincennes.  Steve Hess of Vincennes, Karen Hazelman of New Castle, Jan Topmiller (Pat) of Indianapolis and Linda Bezy (Mike) Vincennes; eighteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Wagoner and  brother, James Cardinal, both of Vincennes.  Also surviving are Jane and Fred Pulley, Marjorie and Bob Hill and Patty Hess.  Betty is preceded in death also by her daughter, Janice Hess, two sisters, Jean Bilskie and Rosemary Kaiser, brother- in- laws, Dale Wagoner, Paul and Jim Hess and sister-in-law, Edna Hess. 

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on March 2, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 803 Main Street, Vincennes.  Burial to follow at St. Vincent Highland Cemetery.  There will be a visitation from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. Vincennes.
