Mark Steward Obituary

Mark E. Steward, aged 70, a long-time resident of Washington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024, in Jasper, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 9, 1953, to the late Pauline Hamilton Steward and Malcolm Steward, and grew up in the close-knit community of Worthington, Indiana where he also completed his high school education with the class of 1971.

Mark’s life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and his work in the trucking industry. He was an avid I.U. fan and also served his country for many years in the Army National Guard. He was the cornerstone of his family, a role he took on with pride and profound tenderness. His legacy continues through his children, Amy Dempsey (Sean), and Clay Steward (Jamie), as well as his cherished grandchildren, Erik Foote (Arielle), Charles Campbell, Victoria Hudluman, Katherine Matthews, Hannah Matthews, Emily Matthews, Libby Newell, Abby Turner (Brandon), Jacob and Sylvia Steward. Mark was also a proud great-grandfather to MariAnne Campbell, Emalyne Mitchell, Penelope, Piper, and Ronan Turner.

He is survived by his loving siblings, Sue Fainot (James), Michael Steward (Jane), Paula Hawkins (David), and Mel Steward; their presence in his life was a source of great joy and camaraderie. Mark's nieces, nephews, and extensive circle of friends, including close companions Mike and Rose Honaker and their family, will miss his loving nature and warm spirit.

Mark's life was further enriched by his passions and interests outside of work. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, a testament to his commitment to brotherhood and community. Fishing on his bass boat provided him with countless hours of tranquility and a space to connect with nature. Mark’s joy was often found in laughter around a campfire, sharing stories and creating memories with both family and his camping friends.

In addition to his immediate family, Mark was preceded in passing by his beloved sister, Marsha Silvers, his stepmother, Mildred Steward, and his daughter, Julie Steward.

Mark will be remembered as a loving figure whose generosity, strength, and kindness touched many lives. His departure leaves a void that will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his memory will remain a guiding light in the hearts of his family and friends. Mark E. Steward’s life was a journey filled with love, laughter, and an enduring sense of community. He will be deeply missed.
