Lorena M Walters

Lorena M. (Mackey) Walters "Susie" 96 of Dunedin, Florida, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at East Bay Rehabilitation Center in Largo, Florida. She was born to Jessie R and Lillian Mackey in Knox County Indiana and was raised by her foster parents Williarn and Emma (Strate) Hagemeier. She graduated from Union Hospital School of nursing in Terre Haute Indiana and was the first Knox County school nurse for 12 years and the first administrator of the Freelandville Community Home for 10 years. She did graduate work in nursing education at Vincennes University and Indiana University. She worked at a county hospital in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She was a member of the Bethel United Church of Christ in Freelandville. She moved to Honeymoon Park in Dunedin Florida in 1972 where she continued to work at various nursing homes for 10 years before retiring. She volunteered for the Red Cross, the Arthritis Foundation and Hurricane Evacuation Team. She was an associate member of the Kirk of Dunedin.
Surviving are nephews, Kenneth R. Griffin and Roger Griffin of Evansville, Indiana and Paul D. Walters of Oaktown, Indiana; her adopted families, Tom Davidson, of Palm Harbor, Florida Stacey Davidson (Rawson) "Granddaughter" of San Diego, California. Kim, Kyle and Kameron Kixmiller of Savannah, Georgia, Kelsey Kixmiller (Whitton) of Junction City Kansas, Kassandra Kixmiller (Hayden) of Perth, Australia. Randy and Cecelia Schroeder of Largo, Florida, Roxanne Schroeder (Palmer) of Roanoke, Virginia and Ryan Schroeder of Trinidad WI.
Services will be held on June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethel United Church of Christ 13763 E State Rd. 58 Freelandville, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service also at the church. Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
